Niesha Burgher is a Jamaican sprinting talent who has established herself as one of the country’s emerging stars in the 100 and 200 meters. Born and raised in St. Thomas, Jamaica, Burgher began competing in track and field while still in primary school and developed her talent at Excelsior High School in Kingston.

She continued her collegiate career in the United States, attending Western Texas College before transferring to the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). During her debut indoor race for UTEP in 2023, Burgher immediately made an impact by running 23.20 seconds in the 200 meters and breaking a school record previously held by fellow Jamaican and world champion Tobi Amusan.

Burgher continued to progress as one of the leading sprinters in collegiate athletics. In 2024, she recorded personal bests of 11.06 seconds in the 100 meters and 22.39 seconds in the 200 meters.

At the 2024 Jamaican National Championships, Burgher produced a breakthrough performance in the 200 meters, finishing third in 22.39 seconds behind Shericka Jackson and Lanae-Tava Thomas. The performance earned her a place on Jamaica’s Olympic team for the Paris 2024 Games.

Making her Olympic debut in Paris, Burgher advanced to the 200-meter semifinals, gaining valuable experience on the sport’s biggest stage.

In 2025, Burgher continued competing internationally, representing Jamaica at the World Athletics Relays and competing at the Jamaican National Championships. She also lowered her indoor 200-meter time to 22.39 seconds, matching her outdoor personal best and setting a UTEP record.

With international experience, elite speed, and continued development, Burgher is positioned to become a significant force in Jamaican sprinting.
