Akeem Bloomfield is a former Jamaican elite sprinter who competed primarily in the 200 and 400 meters. During his career, Bloomfield established himself as one of Jamaica’s fastest quarter-milers and a standout performer on the international stage.

A product of Kingston College, Bloomfield first attracted national attention as a junior athlete. At the 2015 Jamaican National Championships, he set a Jamaican junior record in the 400 meters with a time of 44.93 seconds, signaling the emergence of a remarkable sprinting talent.

Bloomfield continued his development at Auburn University under coach Henry Rolle. At the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships, he finished runner-up in the 400 meters with 44.86 seconds, a performance that established a Jamaican indoor record and placed him among the fastest indoor 400-meter runners in history.

Later that year, Bloomfield delivered one of the defining performances of his career at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, finishing second in the 400 meters in 43.94 seconds. The performance made him one of only a select group of athletes in history to break the 44-second barrier.

Just weeks later, Bloomfield demonstrated his exceptional range at the London Anniversary Games, winning the 200 meters in a breakthrough 19.81 seconds. The performance marked his first sub-20-second 200 meters and placed him among the fastest athletes in history across both the 200 and 400 meters.

Bloomfield turned professional with Puma shortly after his NCAA success and continued competing internationally throughout his professional career.

After years of representing Jamaica at the highest level and establishing himself as one of the country’s premier sprint talents, Bloomfield announced his retirement from competitive athletics in May 2024.

His legacy includes Jamaican junior records, elite sub-44-second 400-meter speed, a sub-20-second 200-meter performance, NCAA championship medals, and a career that showcased remarkable versatility across the sprint events.
