Dejanea Oakley is a Jamaican sprinter and one of the world’s emerging stars in the 400 meters. Known for her speed, strength, and consistency, Oakley has rapidly established herself as a championship-level athlete on both the collegiate and international stages.

A standout at Clarendon College in Jamaica, Oakley won the Class 1 400-meter title at the 2022 ISSA Boys and Girls Championships in 51.81 seconds. That same year, she earned silver as part of Jamaica’s 4×400-meter relay team at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, while finishing fifth individually in the 400 meters.

Oakley continued her development in the United States, competing for the University of Texas before transferring to the University of Georgia. In 2025, she reached the NCAA Indoor 400-meter final, finishing third, before earning silver at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a personal-best 49.65 seconds. She also finished runner-up at the Jamaican Championships and was selected to Jamaica’s team for the 2025 World Athletics Championships, where she helped secure silver in the women’s 4×400-meter relay.

The 2026 season marked a breakthrough year. Oakley won the NCAA Indoor 400-meter championship in a Jamaican indoor national-record 50.47 seconds. Outdoors, she continued to lower her times, running 48.92 seconds at the SEC Championships before winning the NCAA 400-meter title in a record-setting 48.79 seconds. The performance established a new NCAA record and placed her among the fastest women in history.

Oakley carried that momentum onto the international stage, winning the 400 meters at the 2026 Prefontaine Classic and capturing Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow. She also won gold in the mixed 4×400-meter relay.

With a rapidly growing list of championship achievements and world-class performances, Oakley is emerging as a major force in Jamaican and international 400-meter racing.
